Most of the articles on my website are catered to adult divers and snorkelers looking for the best gear options, but kids love snorkeling just as much as grownups.
If you’re nurturing a family of fellow snorkelers, or you’re getting ready to treat the kids to some fun activities on your next Hawaii trip, I’ve reviewed the best kids snorkel set (and other snorkeling options for kids) in this article for your consideration.
Snorkeling can be a fun (and safe) activity for kids, but always remember to supervise your kids near large bodies of water. Kids will be kids, and something’s bound to happen if you don’t keep an eye on them. Snorkeling can be a great way for the family to enjoy a once in a lifetime activity together, and is also a great time to demonstrate good safety practices to your kids.
Kids Love To Snorkel
Do you have fond memories of swimming as a kid? Perhaps you even had one of those cheap snorkel sets and you remember diving in your backyard pool or local lake. Adults often forget that childhood experiences are formative.
More and more, kids these days seem to be averse to outdoor activities, and would rather spend their days inside on their smartphones or tablets. Nonetheless, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve met kids who don’t particularly enjoy outdoor activities but end up falling in love with snorkeling.
There’s something so liberating about diving down deep into the water and seeing ocean life moving all around you. With snorkel sets specifically made for kids, families can enjoy a healthy and fun activity together on vacation or during the summer at the local community pool.
With so many great snorkels and masks on the market, it’s never been easier to get your children started with snorkeling.
How My Son Learned To Love The Water
My youngest son is quite an anxious child, but he’s come out of his shell in recent years. He doesn’t have a great history when it comes to water sports or any water activities in general, and I had to fight tooth and nail just to get him to finish his swim classes. Because of one bad experience he had with the water, he was unwilling to try swimming during our family vacations or anytime at all.
I gradually introduced my son to the idea of snorkeling at local pools. I happened to catch him on a good day, so he was willing to try diving with the snorkel kit I purchased for him. The dry snorkel he used provided him with more confidence, since he didn’t have to go through the admittedly scary experience of having water come through the tube into his mouth.
After repeated exposure to the water, armed with nothing more than a good mask, kids snorkel, and flippers my son ended up really loving the water.
He no longer fears swimming as a result of my active participation. I tried to make it seem fun, even though he was scared. I joined him in the water with my own snorkel and mask. Even if you don’t think your kids will be interested in snorkeling, I encourage you to try. Purchasing a kids snorkel and mask kit can help you get your child adjusted to the idea of diving, and your family will be able to enjoy a brand new activity together!
Kids Snorkel Equipment Buying Guide & Reviews
Best for: Children with smaller Faces
- Designed with smaller faces in mind
- Trustworthy brand
- Super comfortable for kids
The Uncut Buzz Rating
My son was a huge fan of this kids snorkel set from the start. We had a difficult time finding a pair of snorkeling goggles that would fit his face properly until we encountered this one at a local sporting goods store. The face skirt on the mask is designed for narrower, smaller faces.
If your kid’s head tends to run on the small side, you may want to consider purchasing this Junior Dorado kit from US Divers.
The kit comes in two colours, “Fun Purple” or “Fun Blue”. It includes a snorkel, mask, and travel bag. It’s a great value for families looking for an entry level snorkel kit for vacation or summer, and I would certainly recommend it. At the time of this article, it is sitting at 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon with over 120 reviews, the majority of which are very positive.
As a side note, this set might be something you’d consider if you’re an adult female on the smaller side. The mask was able to fit the face of my 8-year-old son, 3-year-old daughter, and my wife. The mask is 100% silicone and provides great comfort for kids.
The snorkel itself is splash-proof to prevent splashed water from entering the snorkel, and the flippers included in the travel bag are ergonomic and fit a variety of different foot sizes. The plastic feels flexible yet supportive, and makes good contact with the head. Overall, an excellent value for your money.
Best for: All Children & Petite Adults
- 3-way adjustable strap with buckles
- Great value for money
- Increased comfort and efficiency courtesy of its unique Pivot Flex Fins Technology
The Uncut Buzz Rating
The U.S. Divers Junior Snorkel Combo Set is one step up from the Junior Dorado in terms of price and quality, and I’m considering upgrading my son to it after demoing it at a tech show earlier this year. It has lots of new features that kids would surely love, especially the popular Pivot Flex Fins Technology.
With a 3-way adjustable strap with buckles, the mask easily fits to a variety of different head sizes, and is designed to fit the heads of children comfortably (and like the Junior Dorado, petite adults.)
The kit includes a silicone mask, carrying case, fins, and a snorkel that is splash-proof. It is small and portable, which makes it great for the community pool in the summer. There are two size configurations available, the “Small” and “Medium”.
With many positive reviews on Amazon, the mask is sitting at a 4.5 out of 5-star average review rating on Amazon at the time this article was published. Many parents remark that they feel the mask was of great value and works perfectly for their kids.
My son loved it when he tried it, and I’m personally planning on upgrading him to this model soon. In general, the entire US Divers kids’ series provides great value for your money and makes quality products that your kids are sure to love.
If your kids love to swim (or you’re trying to get them to love swimming by teaching them how to snorkel and dive), they’re going to love these kits.
Best for: Kids that also need a dry snorkel
- Carrying case included
- Dry snorkel with purge valve system
- Impressive fins for the price

The Promate Junior Snorkeling mask comes in three different colours: “Blue”, “Pink” and “Neon Yellow”. This kit comes with a nylon carrying bag, a dry snorkel with a purge valve, and a tempered glass scuba mask. Slightly less expensive than the US Diver line, I actually found the Promate Junior to be a little bit better than the US Divers kit in several ways.
The snorkel included with the kit feels like it is made with higher quality materials. The mask, however, was not quite as comfortable or adjustable as the one included with the US Divers line.
At the time of writing this article, the Promate Junior Snorkeling Mask is sitting at 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon with around 80 reviews. After my daughter tried out the Promate mask, she remarked that it was comfortable and easy to use. She’s an experienced swimmer, and loved the snorkel kit and the fins in particular.
Everything definitely feels like it is made from high-quality materials, even though the straps aren’t the most adjustable ones I’ve felt on the market.
This is a great value for your money. Frugal parents looking to spend their money wisely should strongly consider the Promate compared to the US Divers kit, as you get very similar features for a price that is significantly lower.
This is definitely one to consider for your kids, and they will love diving during the summer or on vacation with this kit, which is sure to provide hours upon hours of fun for kids of all ages.
Best for: Kids between 7-15 years old
- Lightweight mask
- High quality silicone seal
- Tempered glass lenses

The Cressi Kids Rocks Snorkel set is a mid-range kids snorkeling set that includes fins, a snorkel, and a diving mask. It comes in two sizes, “Small/Medium” and “Large”. The set is available in two colour schemes, “Purple” and “Blue”.
The manufacturer recommends the kit for children aged 7-15, although it easily fits smaller adults and older teens with more petite frames. I have to emphasize the comfort of this snorkeling set, which is lightweight in construction and rubberized. A high-quality silicone frame ensures that a snug seal is made between the head and the equipment, but it doesn’t squeeze or cause tension headaches.
It is sitting at 40 positive reviews and 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon at the moment. I was actually able to fit into the fins and mask without any issue, and no water leaked into the mask. The open heel fin design feels excellent, and the fins in particular were very high quality and provided excellent mobility underwater.
The tempered glass lenses give swimmers an excellent field of view and will be perfect for kids who love to explore underwater worlds.
Your kids are going to love this set. It’s a step-up in price from the Promate offering, but it’s less expensive than the US Divers kit. It doesn’t compromise on build quality, even though it is comparatively inexpensive to some of the luxury models on the market. My kids and I give it two thumbs up all around.
Best for: Kids that don't require flippers
- No fins included
- Polycarbonate lenses
- Fog-proof coating

The Speedo Junior Recreation Mask and Snorkel Set is a great option for kids who don’t necessarily care about having the fins included in the package. With a 100% silicone skirt for maximum comfort, polycarbonate lenses with anti-fog coating, dual-layered speed fit adjustable head straps, and a splash-resistant snorkel, it’s ideal for kids aged 6-15, as well as petite adults.
Speedo always tends to make high-quality swim gear, and this is one of their value offerings that I would highly recommend to any families. The low profile mask is very comfortable for long periods of underwater exploration.
My three-year-old daughter uses this one on a daily basis since she loves the water more than any of my other children. The mask’s fog-proof coating is excellent for kids who get anxiety when underwater, as it provides consistent visibility even in colder climates when these sorts of goggles tend to fog up.
All in all, these were my favorite goggles of the bunch, as they have features that the other masks in similarly-priced kits do not. Speedo once again offers a tremendous value-priced kids snorkel kit, as always.
I can think of many different kids this particular kit would fit well, from inexperienced swimmers who are just starting out in the world of snorkeling to children who are already at the top of their swim class.
A very good offering with a price that definitely won’t break the bank. This is a serious contender for the best kids snorkel set, at least if you’re not interested in the fins.
The Best Snorkeling Gear For Kids
I hope that these offerings appeal to you and your family. It took me some time to objectively review the different kids snorkeling sets, as I’m not a kid myself, but I think I’ve managed to narrow it down to the best of the best offerings. I ranked these top five based on affordability, value, features, and quality overall.
